True end of month

Well, we made it to the end of the month. Today was a bust as it's still cold from the wind, we didn't get only a skiff of snow. So I guess with the temperature going to be -14C tonight, I am going to count it as March going out like a lion. I was thinking of moving but after I did some figuring, it's best I stay put. I had a nice place picked out but I can't downsize that much in a couple of months. My final tally on no spend days was 25.  Ot bad. I had secretly aimed for 29 but of course needs must. I will still try to only shop on the 1st and the 14th. Maybe some month I'll actually do it. My grandson failed his driver test. He was sure he had room to turn. But the tester told him to stop as it was an automatic fail. He will try again on the 17th. Jean

End of month

I went put yesterday and spent money. $12 on an Easter cactus. I love cacti. I spent 46.49 on the darn dog. It gives him a new toy, and bones for the next couple of months. Then I bought my daughter and myself lunch. A whopping $9.60. We each had a hamburger then she has a large coffee. I believe my no spend days stand as 21. Not bad but still an expensive month.     The new Easter cactus Jean

Reading

The past few days I have been reading one of the housemaid mystery books. At first, it seemed to go slow, not make a whole lot of sense. It did turn out to be a very good read. I would give it a 9 out of 10. This one was the Housemaids Secret. Written by Freida McFadden. We finally got above zero temperatures. It has melted to the point where there are tiny lakes everywhere, still lots of ice and of course lots of snow. They called in the big guns today. They cleared the ice as much as they could along with snow. Now we are down to puddles. As the parking lot is pretty much cleared, it won't take long for the small patches of snow to go. Daughter and I talked twice today for a total of an hour. We put everything to rights. She's going to come over this weekend at some point. I need help with one of my couches and she bought me a double jar of Tylenol arthritis. She also found a ham fir Easter dinner.  Jean

Time it is a flying

It's the 18th already. I can hardly fathom it.   I did another grocery haul today and it came to $100.26. I am over for this month by $40.26. As everything I purchased was needed, I think I need to adjust my grocery limit to $250.00 per month. Today, I really realized just how much prices have gone up since December. With what's going on in the world, I expect groceries along with everything else to keep going up. I am happy that we have a freezer and we have a garden available this year. All the foraging grips have died out over the past couple of years, so will have to keep my ears and eyes open for anything that comes up. I am not good with wild mushrooms. I just don't like the tastes. Other than that, I am still working on the afghan. I will need to make jam soon as I am running out of room in the freezer. I will also need to get my daughter to bring over some more jam jars. I see I only have 4 half pint jars left. She is coming on the weekend, so that will be taken ...

The 13th

This week was about as boring as last week.  More melting slowly, more snow, more melting. We lose a bit of the snow banks then it snows. It will melt and we do want, a slow melt so there is no flooding. The ice breaker machines are out doing their job of breaking up ice on the rivers and some lakes. Since it is almost half way through the month I will update my finances. Saturday was an expensive one. I had a hunch, all fluids in my car had not been changed since new (oil changes not included). I had paid for the filters to be changed but the cabin air filter was never changed. The air filter had been changed but not the last time I paid for it. Total was $1399 for it all. My vehicle runs like new again.  Then I spent $75 to fill my tank. That should last me a month or two. My final purchase was groceries. I spent $140.69.  All had money set aside for the items. My no spend days up till today are 11 days. Today I also paid the bills up to the end of the month....

Blah Week

Not anything noteworthy going on. We've been getting frozen rain the last couple of days. We were just out for a walk and it is back at it again. With the snow, it is crunchy to walk through. I like my climbing cleats. Have worn them everyday since the first 3 inches of frozen rain we hot back in December.  We still have all of that under layers of snow and frozen rain. I have been knitting another blanket. Not sure why, though I am sure someone will use it down the line. I am on day 5 of another no spend month. I have enough around to do me. Thankful for frozen meals and some fresh vegetables along with pasta and tin goods. Jean
